Invasion Games

Invasion games are games where two teams share one playing area and each tries to move an object into the other team's territory to score, while defending their own. Players switch between attacking and defending the moment possession changes.

Benchball

Benchball is an invasion game in which teams score by kicking the ball into the face of their opponent's bench. Students learn to work toward a shared team goal, first without positions and then with assigned roles that depend on each other.

Bottle Ball is an invasion game where teams defend a two-litre water bottle instead of a net. Every goal knocks the bottle over and spills some water, so the scoreboard sits right there on the field for everyone to see.

In Guard The Pin, offensive and defensive teams attempt to outplay each other. Offensive players work together to try to hit a pin that the defensive players are guarding, learning to read the ball and shift their position along the way.

Matball is an invasion game in which teams race to move every player onto their mat by completing passes to their catchers. Students learn the cues for receiving a pass and what to do to make themselves an option for a teammate with the ball.

In Slide Tag, offensive players are attempting to move across the playing area without being tagged by defensive players. Defensive players stand on lines that span the width of the area and can only move by sliding up and down their line.

Speed Ball is an invasion game played with six goals, where a dropped ball switches play from hands to feet. Students learn to apply team offensive tactics and read the defence to decide which of the available goals is worth attacking.
