FMS Games

Fundamental movement skills are the building blocks of physical activity: the ways we travel, control objects, and stay balanced. They are usually grouped into locomotor skills, object control skills, and stability skills.
Example skills
Running, Jumping, Throwing, Catching, Kicking, Balancing
Key concepts and tactics
  • Locomotor skills, or how we travel from place to place
  • Object control skills, or how we send, receive, and carry objects
  • Stability skills, or how we balance, twist, and land
  • Cues that make a skill teachable and observable
  • Varied practice, so a skill transfers beyond the drill it was learned in
