Rock Paper Scissors Faceoffs

The teacher sets up a playing area divided in half by a centre line. Where each half meets, the teacher lays a line of polyspots about a foot away from the centre line. In between the lines, the teacher places a pile of beanbags. At the back of each zone, the teacher marks an endzone.

Each team waits in their endzone until the teacher's signal. On the signal, players race to a polyspot in their half of the playing area.

When players arrive at a spot, they shake hands with the player from the opposing team standing opposite them, then play a round of rock paper scissors. Once a player has won the round, the two players high five and the winner picks up a beanbag from the centre line.

Both players then make their way back to their endzone, with the winner leaving their beanbag there. Before returning to a spot, each player performs five jumping jacks.

Play continues until there are no beanbags left in the centre of the playing area.

Discussion Questions

  • How quickly were you able to react once you reached your spot?
  • What did the jumping jacks do to your body over the course of the game?

Rock Paper Scissors Battle Spots

Each team forms a line in their playing zone. The teacher creates a single line of five polyspots aligned with each team's line.

On the teacher's signal, the first player from each team sprints to the middle spot. Players shake hands and play a single round of rock paper scissors.

The winner moves to the next spot closest to the other team's line. The player who did not win goes to the back of their team's line, and the next player in line goes out to meet the winner.

Teams go back and forth like this until a player successfully makes their way past the final spot.

Discussion Questions

  • How did it feel watching your team gain or lose ground spot by spot?
  • What did you do to get to the spot as quickly as possible?
