Bake social and emotional learning into your lessons with this set of 40 social and emotional capacity cards!
In order to show our students that we care about them as individuals more than just producers of grades, we need to put their social and emotional development on an equal footing with their academic development.
CASEL – the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning – has identified five core competencies for social and emotional learning:
The SEL Competency Badges are sold separately.
These five SEL competencies are each composed of different capacities.
The purpose of the Emotional Lens Pack is to use the various capacities that make up each SEL competency as a lens through which teachers and students can explore social and emotional learning in their lessons together.
The pack includes 40 SEL Capacity Cards. Each card features:
👀 Artwork representing the SEL capacity
📛 The name of the capacity
🏷 The SEL competency the capacity is categorized under
🗣 An “I Can” statement written in student-friendly language
Also included in the pack are the revised What/Why/How graphics which now include an “Emotional Lens” graphic to help you introduce the SEL component of your lessons to your students.
Finally, I also created some simple pocket sleeve templates that you can use to create What/Why/How/Lens statements of your own and build your own What/Why/How database.
Altogether, the Emotional Lens Pack can help you intentionally make social and emotional learning a part of your lessons. If you would like to learn more, check out the following blog post!
